WHISPERS OF THE DUSK

Dimensions: H:45cm x W:25cm x L:25cm
Materials: Pastel paper, clay, wood
The tawny owl is the UK's most common and largest native owl, living in dense woodlands and hunting at night. We always hear a female tawny owl 'tu-wit' at night over in the farm fields around us. It was when we heard the male response call 'tu-who' back and forth with the female I knew I had to create this sculpture.
The title of this sculpture conveys the characteristics of the tawny owl. They are nocturnal creatures, known for their distinctive quiet presence in the twilight, and they embody silence, observation, and stealth. The composition of this owl aims to capture a quiet, reflective scene, looking at the serene mystery of dusk through those big, dark eyes.

PAIRING OF PARADISE
Dimensions: H:95cm x W:35cm x L:35cm
Materials: Pastel paper, clay, wood
Macaws are one of the most popular species of parrot, with a vast variation to their colourful plumage, from deep, rich scarlet, to bright, pale blue. They are incredibly intelligent and social birds, which has made them a popular domestic pet. In some cultures they are seen as a symbol of freedom and beauty due to their wide-ranging flights and bright colours.
The title of this piece 'Pairing of Paradise' refers to the macaws' harmony and connection to one and other. Macaws mate for life, which can be up to 90 years. This partnership is a duet of musical performance, vibrant display, and loyalty. Their habitat in the wild is native to Central and South America, in tropical rainforests, where they display loud vocalisations to communicate with each other, that combines to create a chorus of the rainforest.

AROGANT BEAUTY
Dimensions: H:175cm x W:45cm x L:70cm
Materials: Pastel paper, clay, wood
The peacock is a rich cultural symbol, often meaning beauty, pride, rebirth, intelligence, power and transformation. They originate from India, where in Hinduism they are sacred to the goddess Lakshmi, which symbolises wealth, beauty, and prosperity. Being one of the most colourful birds on the planet, the male peacock comes alive during mating season in spring, where his train (tail) grows to lengths of up to 2 meters long. It is used as part of his courtship display, fanning the feathers out wide, revealing the eye feathers, and shaking them to attract females.
This sculpture combines all of the symbolism of a peacock, showcasing their arrogant, but beautiful nature, with his head slightly raised looking down at you from a height of 1.75 meters. The composition of the base looks at the peacocks association with intelligence, having the peacock climb the books as if it were a staircase to royalty.

N.B: The peacocks tail dangles below the base of the sculpture by 95cm, and is removeable.
ANCIENT TRAVELLER
Dimensions: H:40cm x W:70cm x L:70cm
Materials: Clay & Oak

The Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle is the smallest and most endangered sea turtle in the world, with fewer than 9,000 believed to be in the wild today. Living in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, these majestic turtles are rarely seen, except when laying their eggs on beaches in massive groups. This nesting behaviour is called 'arribada' where as many as 100 eggs are laid in a single nest.
Titled 'Ancient Traveller' this sculpture looks to embrace the sea turtles timeless journey. Being one of the oldest creatures on the planet and witnessing countless changes to the worlds oceans, the Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle travels vast distances across our oceans, often return to the same beaches they were born.
The composition of this piece is such that the turtle is effortlessly gliding through the ocean, with a serene glint in his eye. The shell is made from oak, capturing a sense of longevity, wisdom and resilience. Being a natural material, oak pairs with the shell of a sea turtle in many ways, both have lived a whole lifetime, which you can feel on the sculpture.

PONGO
Dimensions: H:25cm x W:40cm x L:20cm
Material: Pastel Paper & clay
Bornean Orangutans are one of the most critically endangered species on the planet, with numbers decreasing to below 50,000 in the wild due to habitat loss, poaching and illegal pet trade. In the indigenous cultures of Borneo and Sumatra orangutans are believed to be wise sacred creatures commanding respect.
The name 'Orangutan' derives from the Malay and Indonesian words 'orang' (person) and 'hutan' (forest). Which translates to 'person of the forest'. This was a true source of inspiration for this sculpture and showing him in his natural habitat was essential. This sculpture aims at capturing this majestic, solitary, intelligent giant ape.
